Adelaide!

Hey all!

Recently, I went to Adelaide for my semester break, it was great fun!

I went down for SA State Music Camp, and I got the same position as I did last year (second clarinet in the concert band). I had heaps of fun, and I was quite impressed with my social skills that I have gained since moving to Grafton. I reckon it may be because I'm around a heap of people nearly all the time now, whereas in SA, we were so isolated that I basically only hung out with my family. It was fun!

I also got to spend a lot of time with some friends I made a couple of years back. We played heaps of board games, which was awesome, because I love board games! The one we played most was Ticket To Ride; Nordic Countries, which we played every day (multiple times), except for the last day, when I was packing and most of them were out.

I also bought a game called 'The Resistance' while I was down there. It is one of my favourite games! It is a bit like mafia in the fact that you have a card, and nobody can know whether you're a resistance member or a spy, and you have to figure it out. But The Resistance is a million times better than mafia, and you use logic to figure it out.

I enjoyed catching up with old friends, and meeting new ones!

Fare the well, everyone!

Wow, I haven't posted in a while..

Hello everybody!

How are you all? Sorry for neglecting you! Here's a quick update!

My TAFE course is going really well - I've finished the first semester with fairly good marks :D

In the last concert, I played a piece (The Theme From 'The Mission') with a friend - I played clarinet, and he played harp. It went really well!

I'm also going back to South Australia for SA Music Camp again this year, I'm really looking forward to it!

I haven't done much drawing in a while - too busy playing music :)

Talk to ya later,
Helena

The Fashion Tag

I was tagged by Sararose at This is Me speaking . . .

1) How would you describe your style?

I dunno, probably fairly plain. Tomboyish mostly, sometimes with a splash of girly :P

2) What are your wardrobe staples?
I take it this is like what I usually wear. Well, to be honest, I don't really know. I guess this blue adidas t-shirt I have at the moment.. and as for pants, whatever I pull out of my cupboard!

3) Most expensive clothing item you own?

Probably a pink dress I bought and wore to mass at Christmas.

4) Most wanted item?

I dunno really. I have nearly everything I need... maybe a new pair of sandles (not that I need them)

5) Favourite Designer

I honestly wouldn't have a clue

6) How much do you spend on clothing?

Not much really. I very rarely go clothes shopping.. last time was a fair bit because I was buying a heap of pants (with pockets) and I was getting them new.

7) Favourite place to shop?

Well, I usually go to op shops (St Vinnies mainly), Target, or Big W

8) Favourite Fragrence?

As in perfume? I really dislike all types of perfume.

9) What is your go to outfit when you have nothing else to wear?
Whatever I can dig up from around the house. :P

10) Most Prized Posession?

MY CLARINET!
Oh wait... this is all clothes and stuff, isn't it? Well then... I dunno, I guess I don't have one.

Now... tagging.... I guess I can tag..

Psychiatrist Joke

A group of psychiatrists were attending a convention. Four of them got together after to chat about the convention. One said to the other three, "People are always coming to us with their guilt and fears, but we have no one that we can go to when we have problems."

Then one said, "Since we are all professionals, why don't we take some time right now to hear each other out?"

The other three agreed.

The first then confessed, "I have an uncontrollable desire to kill my patients."

The second psychiatrist said, "I love expensive things and so I find ways to cheat my patients out of their money whenever I can so I can buy the things I want."

The third followed with, "I'm involved with selling drugs and often get my patients to sell them for me."

The fourth psychiatrist then confessed, "I know I'm not supposed to, but no matter how hard I try, I can't keep a secret..."

Re. The Flood

So, I posted about the flood.

A few days later, just to my luck, it flooded again!

So here's another 'flood post'.

Photos... basically the same, so scroll down. I don't see a reason to post more photos.

I decided to add photos anyway, because the water was muddier this time!

Anyway, the waters didn't get as high this time. But still, there was a lot of water!

TAFE

A couple of weeks ago I began TAFE; Cert IV in Music.

It is quite a good course. I have a more classical background when it comes to playing music  (whereas this course is more contemporary and rock), so it is different for me to go to TAFE, where nearly everyone can improvise, and just play together.

It's amazing how many people only learn to read off of a chord chart, or not learn to read any music at all; they just play chords via what they hear. Most people there have only started to read music this year, at TAFE. But, because I've already learnt, I am way ahead of them in that particular area.
Also, I know how to play a bit of piano. So I've sort of become my lecturer's guinea pig.
"Guys, come here and Helena will show you what we're supposed to be doing/what we're working up to."
And I'm not even that brilliant on piano, but I know enough to be able to make my lecturers happy so that is great.

My lecturers are also rather pleased with me because I am able to pick up things quickly. We did a little dummy recording today on the computer (where we just said a random sentence; I said 'Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool? Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Three bags full!') And I got the volume and everything right the first time, so they were ecstatic about that.

But yeah, there are things, like improvisation, which I had never done before this course. Usually,  if someone just plonks a piece of sheet music in front of me, I can play it reasonably well via sight reading. But I am learning to, say, be given the chord chart, and just make up a solo.

So yeah, it's been good. I'm looking forward to all the things I have yet to learn this year! And my brother has joined too, in Sound Production. As in, they're the 'techies'; they learn more about mixing, using mics, and balancing sound coming through speakers. My class learns the basics, but the techies learn the details.

The Flood

Ok, yeah, the flood was a while back now! But here are some photos I took.

These our some trees on the bank; on day 1 I think
The next day with the trees;

The Flood Rising Up Our Steps - 1
The Flood Rising Up Our Steps - 2

The Flood Rising Up Our Steps - 3

This area had heaps more water in it by the end; it spilled out over the highway

The water rose above the levy into the empty block next to us, so it looks like this is all one river when originally it wasn't.
